In 2007, Clark began his second round of ownership with 980 WCAP – Merrimack Valley Radio, LLC, Lowell, MA.

Within six months the station evolved to all live and local programming.

Talented announcers covered news, talk, sports, politics, travel and “Smart Shopping.”

Strategic partnerships were formed with WCVB-TV/5, The University of Massachusetts Lowell and The Lowell Spinners. WCAP cash billing tripled in the first full year of operation. Local financing came from The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank. Local talk programming was supplemented by the customized music format “The Beatles & Before.” ©

Announcers from WCAP “Graduated” to Boston stations:

    • WBZ 1030, WBZ/FM 98.5 “The Sports Hub,” WRKO Talk Radio 680 and WGBH-TV.

Applying for, Building and Managing WNNH “NEW HAMPSHIRE’S OLDIES 99” as licensee, Clark Broadcasting of New Hampshire, Inc., Clark motivated a talented, hand-picked staff to carve out a significant advertiser and audience base during the extremely tough economic times of the early ’90s.

A major market sound and outstanding client service made WNNH OLDIES 99 an immediate winner and part of NH Radio history.

Clark served as Broadcast Advisor to Larry Gilpin, VP/GM WMUR-TV/9, (ABC) Manchester, NH (1990-2000). Besides suggesting style, positioning and weather services for radio, he introduced the radio news simulcast of Channel 9 on Oldies 99, WNNH Radio.

Clark Smidt was elected Chairman of The New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters for two terms and served on the Board of Directors from 1992-2002.

After selling WNNH, Clark became Tele-Media’s New Hampshire Market Manager running WNNH, WLKZ-FM, Laconia (Oldies) and WHOB-FM, Nashua (Hot A/C), all within the Boston ADI.

Having been in the business through many transitions Clark offers applicable, contemporary perspective along with understanding cost-efficient strategies and use of all new media.
